Filters

We all have filters that we use each day, in what we say, how we act, and how we present ourselves.

How we do learn to use these filters and which ones are appropriate and which ones ensure we are still ourselves?

Four and five year olds have no filters.  How do they learn them? From their parents? From school? Do they learn not to use filters from the same places?

When five year olds don't have any filters, they say things that hurt other four and five year olds.

They say things that hurt other four year old's hearts.

This is when my  filter comes out. The one that doesn't get upset, and stays calm.  The one that gives out hugs and reminds a four year he doesn't have to listen to other kids, but can always talk to teachers, and parents.

The next filter is the one that calls the resource teacher and talks through the situation and wants to know coping techniques, not punishing the non-filtered child, knowing he most likely has his own challenges. Maybe no one at his house uses any filters, and says things to him. This is my rational calm filter.

I always seem to have some sort of filter on, to try to help my four year to learn about filters.  Learn how to say things, how to act and how to be strong so that his lack of filters doesn't hurt anyone else's heart.
